REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Wildflowers of the Sourlands Thursday, July 21

Register through the Mary Jacobs Library.

From spring ephemerals to the final blooms of autumn—Rachel Mackow’s presentation features her photographs of the native flowering plants of the Sourland ridge. She will focus on wildflowers that thrive in the Sourland’s mature forests. Rachel will discuss plant life cycles, pollinators, medicinal and traditional uses, and native plant conservation.  The Sourlands Mountains have been recognized as one of New Jersey's most valuable ecosystems.  The Sourlands provide an intact habitat for threatened and endangered birds that require unbroken forests and grasslands in order to breed successfully.

Montgomery Friends of Open Space is working with naturalist, writer and photographer Rachel Mackow to inform and enlighten area residents about the Sourland Mountains right in our backyard.  Montgomery Friends of Open Space is actively working in partnership with other conservation organizations and the State of New Jersey to preserve land in this unique region that spans across 60,000 acres through Montgomery, Hopewell, East and West Amwell Townships to the Delaware River.

Nature Walk and Reception

MFOS members and guests of all ages gathered at Hoebler Park on Sunday, Oct. 12 for a beautiful afternoon in a beautiful and diverse environment! Clem Fiori, Montgomery Friends of Open Space Advisor and Open Space Committee Chairman, lead a nature walk through the grasslands and woodlands offering a wealth of information about the native plants and wildlife along the way. Afterwards, Pete Rayner, Board President, welcomed all those who were present, thanked them for the support they have given MFOS and directed their attention towards future projects and goals. Then, together, everyone enjoyed refreshments and apple cider. Hoebler Park is a great place for getting out in nature if you don't have a lot of time. It is also stroller friendly!
